Srila Prabhupada: The Founder-Acarya of ISKCON

Ravindra Svarupa Dasa’s latest book, Srila Prabhupada: The Founder-Acarya of ISKCON, is a product of six years of research into the meaning of the title “Founder-Acarya.” The book is comprised of a five-page summary essay titled “The Posistion of Srila Prabhupada,” followed by an extensive commentary on the essay unpacking the historical and theological background of the title “Founder-Acarya” and the implications of Srila Prabhupada’s unique role as ISKCON’s Founder-Acarya.

It was published by ISKCON GBC Press, receiving an initial print-run of 25,000 copies, and was first distributed at the ISKCON Leadership Sanga in February, 2014 in Mayapur, West Bengal.

“Our main concern [in writing this book] was that, in the very near future, our movement faces a time when all the devotees who had direct experience of Srila Prabhupada will no longer be on the planet,” says Ravindra Svarupa Dasa. “And I know from the history of religions that this is always a critical time.”

Understanding how Srila Prabhupada is in the center of our lives and our society, and knowing how to keep him in that essential role, is the purpose of this text.
